Cutting Energy Use While Expanding Usable Space

Artpace, a nonprofit residency program which supports Texas, national, and international artists, needed their rooftop project to serve more than one purpose: protect visitors from the elements, support public use of the space, and reduce long-term energy costs.

By combining a shaded rooftop structure with solar panels, the project creates a more comfortable and weather-protected space for events while generating clean energy, lowering emissions, and improving the building’s overall efficiency.

Solar-Powered Rooftop Renovation

Artpace is using SA Climate Ready Community Incentives funding to install solar panels as part of a full rooftop renovation.

The project adds a full-cover shade structure with solar panels, creating a weather-protected rooftop that can host free public programming and building rentals while lowering the organization’s energy use and operating costs.
